Where to stay near Bunya Mountains

Prioritise official Queensland Parks camping when that product fits — mornings become walks, not hotel drives. Book before you set up; rangers cannot issue permits on site. When you want a commercial bed, match the town to tomorrow’s trailhead. Private cabins also exist near Dandabah outside the park boundary — treat those as near-park, not official camping.

Some stay, tour and gear links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Park entry fees and official Queensland Parks camping bookings are never affiliated.

Fuel, food and medical by intent

Match the bed to tomorrow’s trailhead and to the last town that actually has a bowser and a hospital. There is no fuel on the mountain. Nearest hospitals include Dalby and Kingaroy.

  • Families / first Scenic Circuit: Dandabah camp if pre-booked, else Kingaroy or Dalby for fuel, groceries and a dark descent you are not doing tired.
  • Early Barker Creek start: Dandabah or a near-park cabin; fuel the night before (Kumbia / Nanango / Kingaroy depending on approach).
  • West-side / Mt Kiangarow: Burtons Well or Westcott tent camp if booked; otherwise Dalby. Pack rubbish out of quieter camps.
  • Towing: leave long/heavy outfits on the plains (Toowoomba / Kingaroy / Dalby). TMR cautions the access roads.
