Bunya Mountains trails & lookouts

Pick one main walk that matches fitness, weather and daylight. Scenic Circuit covers most first visits. Distances, grades and times below are planning figures — always confirm on Queensland Parks and Park Alerts. Weather and closures change.

Decide before you start

  • Easy / short: Bunya Bunya loop plus a Dandabah picnic.
  • Moderate first walk: Scenic Circuit — falls, boardwalk and Pine Gorge Lookout.
  • Full rainforest day: Barker Creek Circuit — early start, more water and food.
  • West-side views: Mt Kiangarow, or longer Grade 4 links if you already know the range.

Stacking two long walks plus a “quick look” is how first visits run out of daylight. Pick the row that matches your energy, then open the walk page for getting-there detail.

Trails FAQ

Tap a question to expand the answer.

What is the best first walk in Bunya Mountains?

Most first visits start with Scenic Circuit from Dandabah (about 4 km, Grade 3). If the group needs something shorter, do the tiny Bunya Bunya loop and a picnic. Always verify track status with Queensland Parks.

How hard is Scenic Circuit?

About 4 km circuit, Grade 3, allow roughly 1.5 hours. Expect roots, steps and boardwalks that get slippery when wet. Sturdy shoes help more than fashion sneakers.

Can I do Scenic Circuit, Barker Creek and Mt Kiangarow in one day?

Usually too much for a first visit. Barker Creek alone is about 10 km and 3–4 hours. Pick one main walk, then add a short loop only if energy and light still look good.
