Camping is a separate permit system — book before you climb. Rangers cannot issue permits on-site. Display your booking-number tag. Statewide schedule from 1 July 2026 (re-checked 20 August 2026): $7.75 per person or $31 per family per night — confirm live before you pay.
Dandabah is the vehicle-friendly hub with showers, electric BBQs and bins (open grassy layout, capacity in the ~70 class — confirm live). No generators, no open fires, no pets except certified assistance animals under official rules.
Dawn on the range beats a hotel drive for Scenic Circuit light and cooler walking. Day two is for Barker Creek or a west-side high point — not every track on the map.
Always re-check Park Alerts and your booking details the morning you travel. This plan is guidance only.
Track status, weather, camping availability and road conditions change — verify on Queensland Parks and live road sources before you leave, then use the timeline below as a planning skeleton only. Free day use does not mean free camping or empty car parks on holidays.

Timeline
Before travel
Booking locked + plains resupply
Permit via https://qld.gov.au/camping / Queensland National Parks Booking Service. Cannot pay on arrival. Verify current fees, max stay and site rules. Fill fuel and buy water/food on the plains. Screenshot booking tag and maps.
Arrival day
Set up + Scenic Circuit
Camp first if weather threatens; else walk Scenic Circuit then set up. Boot-wash etiquette still applies. Keep the reverse clock honest if you are only day-using the walk before dark.
Evening
Cool night kit
Range is colder than the plains. Tick check before sleep. Headlamp for toilet runs. Do not feed wildlife. Quiet hours and generator rules: follow official camping conditions.
Next morning
Second walk or depart
Barker Creek if fit and early; short loops if recovering; or drive toward west-side Mt Kiangarow if that was always day two. Re-check alerts. One main objective.
Depart
Pack out + fuel-aware descent
Leave site clean. Bins are here — still pack smart. Descend carefully in fog. Do not assume mountain store replaces a supermarket or fuel stop on the way out.

Parking & access tips
- Dandabah camping area — open grassy layout; confirm current site rules on the official page.
- Do not set up without a valid booking tag displayed.
- Day-use visitors share the hub — be courteous with parking and facilities.
- Westcott / Burtons Well are different products (tent focus) — do not assume Dandabah rules apply there.
Skip if short on time / energy
- No booking / hoping to pay on arrival
- Expecting powered sites, generators or open fires
- Bringing pets (except certified assistance animals under official rules)
- Planning every Grade 4 link plus both circuits in one overnight
Extra tips
Fees and honesty
- Camping fee is not day entry — keep the systems separate in your head
- Verify current dollar figures on official pages before you pay
- This site never affiliates official camping bookings
Other camps on the range
- Westcott / Burtons Well are tent-focused with thinner facilities
- Pack rubbish out from west-side camps — bins are centralised at Dandabah
- Pre-book those products separately if that is your plan
What success looks like
- Valid booking, clean site, one good walk each day
- Kids tick-checked; boots washed
- Descent in daylight with fuel already planned

- Scenic CircuitSignature easy–moderate rainforest circuit from Dandabah: Festoon Falls and Tim Shea Falls with rock pools, a towering strangler fig on boardwalk, and Pine Gorge Lookout over the South Burnett valleys. About 4 km circuit, Grade 3. Ideal first walk on the mountain.
- Bunya Bunya loopTiny 130 m Grade 1 loop near Dandabah — a 10-minute introduction to bunya pines. Wheelchair possible with assistance per official framing; confirm surface notes on the day.
- Barker Creek CircuitLonger signature rainforest circuit (about 10 km, 3–4 hours, Grade 3) linking Dandabah / Paradise country: Paradise, Little and Tim Shea Falls, optional 750 m detour to Big Falls lookout (tallest waterfall, best after rain), and a grassy bald above Big Falls for lunch. Best full-day immersion.
