Two-day range sampler
Guide updated · verify Queensland Parks the morning you go
Day 1 Scenic Circuit from Dandabah camp or town stay. Day 2 Barker Creek or Mt Kiangarow depending on energy — one main walk per day.

Two days is better than trying every track in one rushed visit. Book camping or a gateway town bed before you leave home. School holidays: book early.
Day 1 is for settling in after Great Bunya Drive and completing Scenic Circuit well. Day 2 is for the longer rainforest circuit or the west-side high point — not both plus Grade 4 links.
Re-check Park Alerts each morning. Free day use still does not mean free camping. Fuel stays a plains problem both days.
Treat bunya country with respect — it is a living gathering place, not only a scenic backdrop.
Track status, weather, camping availability and road conditions change — verify on Queensland Parks and live road sources before you leave, then use the timeline below as a planning skeleton only. Free day use does not mean free camping or empty car parks on holidays.

Timeline
Before the trip
Bookings + plains resupply
Lock camping or gateway beds. Fill fuel plans. Screenshot maps and alerts. Agree day-1 and day-2 primary walks out loud so nobody invents a third summit at dinner.
Day 1 morning
Arrive + Scenic Circuit
Climb with margin. Hub orientation at Dandabah. Scenic Circuit (~4 km, Grade 3, allow 1.5 hr). Boot-wash, picnic, tick check. Early night — cool temperatures on the range.
Day 1 evening
Camp or town reset
If camping: tag displayed, warm sleep kit, headlamp. If town: do not turn dinner into a late-night drive back up in fog without a plan.
Day 2 option A
Barker Creek
Full rainforest day if legs are good (~10 km Grade 3, 3–4 hr). Early start. Water and mud honesty. No Scenic stack afterward.
Day 2 option B
West-side high point
Mt Kiangarow if you want views and shorter distance. Fog Plan B ready. Pack rubbish out if using west-side camps.
Depart
Fuel-aware descent
Do not leave the descent for dark fog if avoidable. One more tick check. Notes for next trip: longer links only if you already know your pace.

Parking & access tips
- Day 1: Dandabah day-use or camping as booked.
- Day 2: Paradise / Dandabah for Barker, or west-side trackheads for Mt Kiangarow.
- Do not assume the same car park works for every objective.
- Holiday traffic: build margin both mornings.
Skip if short on time / energy
- Trying every Grade 4 link plus both circuits in 48 hours
- No booking when you planned to camp
- Skipping alerts re-check on day two
- Empty fuel “we’ll get it later” on the mountain
Extra tips
Pacing
- One main walk per day for most groups
- Protect the descent both evenings
- Switch day-2 plans rather than stacking two full timelines
Bookings
- School holidays: book camping early
- Gateway beds are valid Plan B when camp is full
- Never affiliate official camping — book on government channels only
Culture and success
- Treat bunya country with respect — stay on tracks, boot-wash, pack out rubbish
- Success is two complete days, not a map of unfinished ambitions
- Write notes for a third visit instead of destroying day two

- Scenic CircuitSignature easy–moderate rainforest circuit from Dandabah: Festoon Falls and Tim Shea Falls with rock pools, a towering strangler fig on boardwalk, and Pine Gorge Lookout over the South Burnett valleys. About 4 km circuit, Grade 3. Ideal first walk on the mountain.
- Barker Creek CircuitLonger signature rainforest circuit (about 10 km, 3–4 hours, Grade 3) linking Dandabah / Paradise country: Paradise, Little and Tim Shea Falls, optional 750 m detour to Big Falls lookout (tallest waterfall, best after rain), and a grassy bald above Big Falls for lunch. Best full-day immersion.
- Mt Kiangarow trackAbout 2.3 km return, Grade 3 to Mt Kiangarow (about 1,135 m — park high point). Panoramic views and ancient grasstrees. Excellent short add-on from Burtons Well / west side.
